Diskit Monastery
Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley, is famed for its colossal 32-meter Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Founded in the 14th century, it belongs to the Gelugpa sect and is a hub of Buddhist learning and culture. Visitors can enjoy mesmerizing views of snow-capped peaks and the Shyok River from the monastery’s terraces. Diskit hosts an annual Dosmoche festival, drawing locals and tourists alike.
