Trip Itinerary
Your big adventure starts in the beautiful hill station of Manali. After arriving and checking into your hotel, we take you for a half-day sightseeing tour. You will visit the ancient Hadimba Devi Temple, which is hidden in a cedar forest, and the Manu Temple in Old Manali. In the afternoon, you can relax at the Vashisht hot sulfur springs, which are very good for the skin. Manali is at 2,050m elevation, which is a perfect starting point for your Manali Leh road trip packages. You can spend the evening walking on the Mall Road for shopping and local food. Enjoy a quiet dinner at your hotel and prepare for the long mountain drive starting tomorrow.
We leave the green valleys of Manali today and drive toward the rugged mountains. The journey takes us through the world-famous Atal Tunnel, which is a 9 km engineering marvel. We pass through Keylong (3,350m) and climb the Baralacha La Pass at 4,890m. You will see the beautiful Suraj Tal lake near the top. By late afternoon, we reach the high-altitude campsite of Sarchu (4,253m). This is the border between Himachal and Ladakh. Staying in tents under the clear mountain sky is a unique experience. The landscape becomes rocky and barren, signaling your entry into the high Himalayas. This 180 km drive is full of amazing photo opportunities.
Today is a long but rewarding drive of 255 km to reach Leh city. We cross the Nakeela and Lachangla passes, reaching over 5,000m. We stop for a hot lunch at Pang before driving through the Skyangchu Thang, which is one of the highest flat plateaus on earth stretching for 42 km. Finally, we cross the Tanglang La Pass (5,361m), the second highest motorable pass in the region. As we descend into the Indus Valley, the scenery becomes more dramatic. By evening, we reach Leh city (3,500m) and check into a comfortable hotel. Your body will need some rest after this long journey through the "Land of High Passes."
After a late breakfast, we spend the day exploring the spiritual side of Ladakh. We visit the famous Hemis Monastery, which is the largest and richest in the region. Next, we see the Thiksey Monastery, which is often called the Little Potala Palace because of its beautiful architecture. We also visit the Stok Palace and Museum to see the royal history of Ladakh. This 80 km round trip is easy and helps your body stay adjusted to the 3,500m altitude. You have the evening free to explore the local Leh market for handicrafts or try some authentic butter tea in the local cafes. Overnight stay at your hotel in Leh.
We drive 150 km today to see the world-famous Pangong Lake. The route takes us over the Chang La Pass (5,360m), which is often covered in snow. When you see the first view of the blue lake, it will take your breath away. Pangong Tso is a 134 km long lake shared between India and China. The water changes colors from turquoise to deep blue throughout the day. We stay in a guest house or deluxe camp near the lake at 4,250m. Watching the sunset over the water and the millions of stars at night is the highlight of all Manali Leh road trip packages
Wake up early to witness a magical sunrise over the blue waters of Pangong. After breakfast and some photography by the shore, we start our drive back to Leh city. We cross the Chang La Pass again and return to the Indus Valley. Upon reaching Leh, you have the afternoon free to rest or visit the local market for any last-minute shopping. You can buy famous pashmina shawls, apricots, or Tibetan jewelry. This 150 km drive brings you back to the comfort of your Leh hotel. It is a good time to relax and share photos of the lake with your friends and family.
Get ready to cross the highest motorable road in the world! We drive 125 km to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass (18,390 ft). At the top, you will see a panoramic view of the Karakoram range. After a short stop, we descend into the "Valley of Flowers." We visit Diskit Monastery, which has a 100 ft golden Buddha statue. In the evening, we reach Hunder village where you can enjoy a ride on the rare Double-Humped Bactrian Camels in the sand dunes. Staying in a guest house or camp at 3,000m altitude is very comfortable. The desert scenery surrounded by snowy peaks is truly spectacular.
In the morning, we visit the quiet Samstanling Monastery in the Sumur region. This monastery is very peaceful and has beautiful wall paintings. Afterward, we drive back toward Leh, crossing the Khardung La Pass once again. We reach Leh by the afternoon, and the rest of the evening is free for you to explore the local cafes or simply relax at your hotel. This 125 km drive completes your valley tour. You return to your hotel in Leh (3,500m) for an overnight stay. This is your last chance to enjoy the evening vibes of the Leh Main Market before our Sham Valley tour tomorrow.
Today we explore the western side of Leh, known as the Sham Valley. The drive is around 90 km on very smooth roads. We visit the Phyang Monastery and the gravity-defying Magnetic Hill where cars move uphill by themselves. We also visit the holy Pathar Sahib Gurudwara and the Hall of Fame war museum. One of the best views today is the Sangam Point, the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. We stop at Likir Monastery before reaching Saspol village for an overnight stay. Saspol is famous for its apricot orchards and ancient caves. It is a very peaceful and green part of Ladakh.
After an early breakfast, we drive further west to visit the famous Lamayuru Monastery, also called the Moonland because of its unique soil. After exploring the monastery and the stunning landscape, we drive back toward Leh. On the way, we visit Alchi Monastery, which is the oldest in Ladakh and famous for its 1,000-year-old frescoes. We also stop at Rizong Monastery, which is known as a paradise for meditation because of its isolated location. By evening, we return to Leh city for an overnight stay. This day is full of history and ancient art, making your 12-day journey culturally complete.
This is a relaxed "buffer" day in Leh. We visit the white-domed Shanti Stupa, the historic Leh Palace, and the Spituk Monastery. This day is very important in case of any delays earlier in the trip due to bad weather or road blocks. If the trip went as planned, you can use this day for resting, more photography, or visiting any local spots you missed. You can spend the final evening at the Leh market for some final shopping and a farewell dinner with your group. This is your last night in the magical land of Ladakh before your flight home tomorrow morning.

Chuntzu HVerified One of the Best Days I’ve Had in the Mountains LOVE “RUMBAK Snow Leopard Trip” 🖤🤍Before coming, everyone told us it was basically impossible to see a snow leopard in early November — which honestly just made me want to try even more. And guess what? We got lucky. 🤞🏾This whole trip was one of those experiences that reminds you why traveling is worth it. Watching wildlife in the mountains, especially the snow leopard, felt unreal. Our guide and the wildlife spotter clearly knew what they were doing; they shared tons of interesting details about the animals and the valley, but in a way that felt relaxed and genuine, not like a lecture. We also saw plenty of blue sheep throughout the day. The timing was comfortable — not rushed at all — and the lunch break at the homestay was perfect. The food was simple but really satisfying, exactly what you want when you’ve been out in the mountains.Everything was arranged smoothly, and the team made us feel like we were in good hands the whole time. I’ve already told my friends and family that if they ever come to Ladakh, they must do this. It would honestly be a shame to visit and miss out on something like this.Big thanks to the whole crew, Rigzin and Jigmed:) — it was an incredible day, and one I won’t forget anytime soon. Tour22928098945Verified Incredibly-Amazing-Adventure Trip in Trans-Himalayan Region Strongly Recommend the Mountain Intelligence crew for Trans-Himalayan region tourism. From the initial discussions our itinerary was based on our interests and personalized experiences. They live & breath the terrain therefore can plan and execute a tailored trip.We had an AMAZING 7-days and 6-nights adventurous trip through Ladakh. Very Big Thank You, Jigmed & Rigzin for arranging this incredibly memorable trip for us, it was Par Excellence experience !! Highlights of our trip … - Spot-on time-bound planning of destinations and sightseeing.- Safe drivers that navigated the intricately winding Trans-Himalayan terrain. Gulp, windy roads, unpaved in some parts where the vehicle is up against the mountain and valley's does make one's heart skip few beats !!- Transport vehicles were equipped with oxygen tank just in case one needs to address altitude sickness. Fortunately we did not need any medical attention (Pshew!!). - Tip for travelers: 1) Ascertain cardio fitness and blood-oxygen level is sustainable for high altitude. 2) Listen to your body and don’t push your luck, this will ensure a safe and enjoyable trip :-)- Hotels in Leh, Nubra Valley & Pangong Lake were cozy and served freshly cooked delicious food. Friendly hotel staff even catered to special food requests. Appreciation and tips goes a long way :-)- Special Mentions: * Artisanal Alchemy's Dining Experience was one-of-kind where "authentic" Ladakhi gastronomy was curated by the incredible host, Kunzes Angmo. She accompanied the delectable delicacies with interesting narratives of the cuisine origin, spices, and more. We strongly recommend this to folks that love & enjoy good food peppered with great history of Ladakh food stories :-) * De Reeva Resort, Pangong offers incredible views of the lake. It's a short walk to the lake to soak in the views, both at sunset and sunrise !!- Regret not being able to do the day-hike to Stok Changma due to road closures for the Ladakh Marathons. However the Artisanal Alchemy's Dining Experience 'more-than' made-up for this missed trek :-) killian cVerified Baby Trek with Family/Friends Great experience, thanks to Jigmet who was an excellent guide. Great moments shared with him also in the Home-Stay. He was able to adapt, both for the pace and for the deviations. Professionalism, reassurance and total confidence.I highly recommend. Wander57374543012Verified A wonderful experience in Ladakh with Mountain Intelligence We took a 7-day and 6-night trip through Ladakh with Mountain Intelligence. The tour included Leh and the Nubra Valley. We planned to reach Pangong Lake as well, but eventually decided to return to Leh for altitude sickness prevention. Our driver was exceptional: a very friendly boy, very helpful and attentive at all times. He even accompanied us to a health center in Nubra when we were not feeling well, which gave us a lot of peace of mind. In addition, he was driving safely and prudently along the complex roads in the region, which we greatly value. The stays in the different accommodations were also very nice, comfortable and cozy.In short, it was a very positive experience that I would recommend to anyone who wants to discover Ladakh with caring and responsible professionals. I would encourage everyone to share this adventure with Mountain Intelligence. Adventure47040135609Verified Superb❤️👍💪👏👏 Super Exciting Trip! Mani CVerified Ice climbing It was a amazing experience, I was a beginner and rigzin helped me a lot to climb my first ever wall. They had all the gears and I always felt safe. Will do it again when I am in leh. Clement LVerified Incredible Experience in the Himalayas I had a truly unforgettable experience climbing all 6070m of UT Kangri with Rigzin, supported by his team from Mountain Intelligence. Rigzin provided incredible help in pushing me up the mountain despite the going getting tough for me, especially in the final 500m of elevation or so. My acclimitization was not the best (my fault) and so the altitude was a challenge. Nonetheless, Rigzin supported me every step of the way and helped when he was needed the most. On the descent, I accidentally fell into a river and suffered some cuts and abrasions. Rigzin and team went out the way to send me to a hospital and got me checked. It goes without saying that I could never have made it up and down safely without their help!I wish them all the best and definitely look forward to the next adventure with them!
