Trip Itinerary

Your adventure starts when you land at Srinagar Airport. Our team will pick you up and take you to your hotel or a traditional wooden houseboat on Dal Lake. After checking in and resting, the day is free for you to explore the summer capital of Kashmir. You can enjoy a peaceful Shikara ride on the lake and see the floating gardens and local lifestyle. Srinagar is at 1,585m, which is a very easy altitude to start your Kashmir Ladakh road trip packages. In the evening, you can walk through the local market for famous handicrafts and dry fruits. Enjoy your dinner on the houseboat and get ready for the mountains.

We start early today for a scenic drive toward Kargil. The road takes you through Sonamarg, also known as the Meadow of Gold. The biggest highlight is crossing the Zojila Pass (3,528m), which is the gateway to the Ladakh region. On the way, we visit the Drass War Memorial to learn about the bravery of Indian soldiers. You will also see Tiger Hill and the snowy peaks of the Himalayas. We reach Kargil town by evening and check into the hotel. The landscape changes from green forests to brown rocky mountains. It is a long but very beautiful drive of 204 km.

Today we drive 210 km to reach the heart of Ladakh. We cross the Namika La and Fotu La passes, which offer stunning views of the rugged mountains. We stop at the ancient Lamayuru Monastery, where the ground looks like the surface of the moon. On the way, we visit the Magnetic Hill, where your vehicle rolls uphill without engine power, and the Sangam point where the Indus and Zanskar rivers meet. We also visit Pathar Sahib Gurudwara and the Hall of Fame museum. By evening, we reach Leh city (3,500m) and stay in a comfortable hotel. Your body will feel good because we came up slowly.

Today is a relaxing day to explore the culture of Leh. We visit the Shanti Stupa, a white-domed Buddhist monument that gives a panoramic view of the whole Leh valley. We also explore the 9-story Leh Palace, built in the 17th century. In the afternoon, you can walk through the Leh Main Market to buy Tibetan crafts, jewelry, and woolens. This day is very important for acclimatization before we head to higher passes tomorrow. You can try local Ladakhi food like Skyu or Momos in the city cafes. The driving distance is very less today, keeping you fresh for the upcoming adventure.

Get ready to cross one of the highest roads in the world! We drive 160 km to reach Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass (17,582 ft). You can take photos at the top and enjoy the thin mountain air. Then we go down into the valley of flowers and visit Diskit Monastery with its giant golden Buddha statue. In the evening, we reach the Hunder Sand Dunes. You can enjoy a ride on the rare Double-Humped Bactrian Camels. We stay in a deluxe camp at 3,000m altitude. The white sand dunes surrounded by snowy mountains look like a magical dreamland.
Today we drive to the most famous lake in Ladakh. We take the direct route along the Shyok River, which is a journey of 170 km. Pangong Lake is a high-altitude saltwater lake at 4,225m on the Indo-China border. The water changes color from blue to green as the sun moves. You can walk on the shore and see the shooting locations of famous Bollywood movies like 3 Idiots. We stay in a camp or guest house near the lake. The night sky here is full of stars and the wind is very cold. It is the most beautiful night of your entire journey.

After watching a spectacular sunrise at the lake, we drive back toward Leh. We cross the Chang La Pass (5,360m), which is the third highest motorable pass. On the way back, we can visit the Thiksey Monastery, which looks like a mountain palace, and the Rancho School. We reach Leh by late afternoon. You have the rest of the day free for final shopping or to relax in the local market. This 150 km drive completes your mountain loop. You return to the comfort of your hotel in Leh for a final farewell dinner with the team.

Your 8-day Kashmir Ladakh road trip ends today. After breakfast, our driver will drop you at the Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport for your departure flight. As you fly over the massive Himalayan range, you can see the high passes and deep valleys you just explored.
