Trip Itinerary
Today you arrive in beautiful Manali town. This day is very important for rest because your body need to get ready for high mountains. You check into your hotel and breathe the fresh pine air. If you feel energetic, you can walk slowly to Mall Road or visit the old Hadimba Temple. Manali is at 2,050 meters elevation, so it is good start for your 10 days journey. Total driving is very less today, maybe 5-10 km only for local area. Eat good dinner and sleep early because tomorrow the real adventure starts. This is the first step of your amazing Leh Ladakh tour packages from Manali.
After breakfast, we start drive towards Jispa. The main highlight today is the famous Atal Tunnel, which is one of longest highway tunnels in world. After crossing tunnel, you see big change in landscape from green to rocky Lahaul Valley. We cross the Tandi bridge where Chandra and Bhaga rivers meet. Jispa is located at 3,200 meters elevation, which helps you adjust for higher Leh later. You stay in beautiful riverside camp or hotel. The drive is smooth but very scenic. You will see many waterfalls on the way. This 100 km drive is very comfortable and full of photo spots for your social media.
This is the longest and most beautiful day of your trip. We drive 250 km from Jispa to Leh. Today we cross many high passes like Baralacha-La (4,890m) and Taglang-La (5,328m), which is second highest motorable pass. You will see the famous Gata Loops with 21 sharp turns and the flat Morey Plains which look like a desert in the sky. The elevation goes very high today, so drink plenty of water. By evening, we reach Leh city at 3,500 meters. This drive is difficult but very rewarding with "moonland" views. Your Leh Ladakh tour packages from Manali finally brings you to the heart of Ladakh.
Today we explore the culture of Leh. After breakfast, we drive to Sangam, where Indus and Zanskar rivers meet with different colors. On way back, we visit Magnetic Hill where car move uphill without engine power—it is amazing magic of nature! We also visit holy Pathar Saheb Gurudwara and the Hall of Fame war museum. In evening, we go to Shanti Stupa for best sunset view of Leh town from top. The elevation stays around 3,500m, so your body feels better today. It is a relaxing day with total 80 km driving on very good roads. Perfect for enjoying local Ladakhi food.
Get ready to touch the sky! Today we drive to Nubra Valley by crossing Khardung-La Pass, the world-famous pass at 18,380 feet (5,602m). You can take photos with the yellow sign board. Then we go down into the "Valley of Flowers." We reach Hunder village where you see white sand dunes. The best part is the ride on Bactrian Double-Hump Camels, which you find only here. Nubra is lower at 3,000m, so you sleep very well in camps. This 130 km journey is full of snow peaks and deep valleys. It is a highlight of all Leh Ladakh tour packages.
Today we visit Turtuk, the northernmost village of India. This village was in Pakistan before 1971. The culture here is Balti, and it is very different from Leh. You see many apricot orchards and local stone houses. It is very close to the border, and you can see the Karakoram mountains. The drive is 85 km one way along the Shyok River. The elevation is low (2,800m), making it very warm and green. After spending time with friendly locals, we drive back to Hunder for the night. This day is like traveling back in time. Total 140 km driving on rocky roads.
We start early for the world-famous Pangong Lake. We don't go back to Leh, we take the direct route via Shyok River. The road is adventurous with some water crossings and big rocks. When you see the first glimpse of blue water, you will forget everything. Pangong Lake is 134 km long and shared with China. The water changes color from blue to green to turquoise. We stay in a camp near the lake at 4,250 meters elevation. It is very cold at night, but the stars are very bright. This 160 km drive is the most famous part of your Ladakh trip.
Watch the beautiful sunrise over the lake, then we start drive back to Leh. Today we cross Chang-La Pass, which is 5,360 meters high. It is often covered in snow. On the way, we visit Thiksey Monastery, which looks like the Potala Palace of Tibet. We also stop at Rancho School from the movie '3 Idiots'. The drive is 150 km and brings us back to Leh city for a comfortable hotel stay. You can do last-minute shopping at Leh Main Market for Tibetan crafts and woolens. This is your last night in the high mountains of Ladakh before going back.
We start very early, maybe 4:00 AM, because the road to Manali is very long. We drive back through the same high passes like Taglang-La and Baralacha-La. You see the mountains in a different light today. Most travelers prefer to go straight to Manali or stay one night in Sarchu/Jispa if tired. We cross the Atal Tunnel again and reach the green trees of Manali by late evening. It is a long day of 410 km driving, but the memories of the "Land of High Passes" stay in your heart. You feel very proud of completing this big mountain loop.
Your big adventure of Leh Ladakh tour packages from Manali ends today. After a late breakfast, you can relax in Manali. If you have a bus in the evening, you can visit Old Manali cafes or Vashisht hot springs. It is time to say goodbye to your driver and the Himalayan mountains. Chuntzu HVerified One of the Best Days I’ve Had in the Mountains LOVE “RUMBAK Snow Leopard Trip” 🖤🤍Before coming, everyone told us it was basically impossible to see a snow leopard in early November — which honestly just made me want to try even more. And guess what? We got lucky. 🤞🏾This whole trip was one of those experiences that reminds you why traveling is worth it. Watching wildlife in the mountains, especially the snow leopard, felt unreal. Our guide and the wildlife spotter clearly knew what they were doing; they shared tons of interesting details about the animals and the valley, but in a way that felt relaxed and genuine, not like a lecture. We also saw plenty of blue sheep throughout the day. The timing was comfortable — not rushed at all — and the lunch break at the homestay was perfect. The food was simple but really satisfying, exactly what you want when you’ve been out in the mountains.Everything was arranged smoothly, and the team made us feel like we were in good hands the whole time. I’ve already told my friends and family that if they ever come to Ladakh, they must do this. It would honestly be a shame to visit and miss out on something like this.Big thanks to the whole crew, Rigzin and Jigmed:) — it was an incredible day, and one I won’t forget anytime soon. Tour22928098945Verified Incredibly-Amazing-Adventure Trip in Trans-Himalayan Region Strongly Recommend the Mountain Intelligence crew for Trans-Himalayan region tourism. From the initial discussions our itinerary was based on our interests and personalized experiences. They live & breath the terrain therefore can plan and execute a tailored trip.We had an AMAZING 7-days and 6-nights adventurous trip through Ladakh. Very Big Thank You, Jigmed & Rigzin for arranging this incredibly memorable trip for us, it was Par Excellence experience !! Highlights of our trip … - Spot-on time-bound planning of destinations and sightseeing.- Safe drivers that navigated the intricately winding Trans-Himalayan terrain. Gulp, windy roads, unpaved in some parts where the vehicle is up against the mountain and valley's does make one's heart skip few beats !!- Transport vehicles were equipped with oxygen tank just in case one needs to address altitude sickness. Fortunately we did not need any medical attention (Pshew!!). - Tip for travelers: 1) Ascertain cardio fitness and blood-oxygen level is sustainable for high altitude. 2) Listen to your body and don’t push your luck, this will ensure a safe and enjoyable trip :-)- Hotels in Leh, Nubra Valley & Pangong Lake were cozy and served freshly cooked delicious food. Friendly hotel staff even catered to special food requests. Appreciation and tips goes a long way :-)- Special Mentions: * Artisanal Alchemy's Dining Experience was one-of-kind where "authentic" Ladakhi gastronomy was curated by the incredible host, Kunzes Angmo. She accompanied the delectable delicacies with interesting narratives of the cuisine origin, spices, and more. We strongly recommend this to folks that love & enjoy good food peppered with great history of Ladakh food stories :-) * De Reeva Resort, Pangong offers incredible views of the lake. It's a short walk to the lake to soak in the views, both at sunset and sunrise !!- Regret not being able to do the day-hike to Stok Changma due to road closures for the Ladakh Marathons. However the Artisanal Alchemy's Dining Experience 'more-than' made-up for this missed trek :-) killian cVerified Baby Trek with Family/Friends Great experience, thanks to Jigmet who was an excellent guide. Great moments shared with him also in the Home-Stay. He was able to adapt, both for the pace and for the deviations. Professionalism, reassurance and total confidence.I highly recommend. Wander57374543012Verified A wonderful experience in Ladakh with Mountain Intelligence We took a 7-day and 6-night trip through Ladakh with Mountain Intelligence. The tour included Leh and the Nubra Valley. We planned to reach Pangong Lake as well, but eventually decided to return to Leh for altitude sickness prevention. Our driver was exceptional: a very friendly boy, very helpful and attentive at all times. He even accompanied us to a health center in Nubra when we were not feeling well, which gave us a lot of peace of mind. In addition, he was driving safely and prudently along the complex roads in the region, which we greatly value. The stays in the different accommodations were also very nice, comfortable and cozy.In short, it was a very positive experience that I would recommend to anyone who wants to discover Ladakh with caring and responsible professionals. I would encourage everyone to share this adventure with Mountain Intelligence. Adventure47040135609Verified Superb❤️👍💪👏👏 Super Exciting Trip! Mani CVerified Ice climbing It was a amazing experience, I was a beginner and rigzin helped me a lot to climb my first ever wall. They had all the gears and I always felt safe. Will do it again when I am in leh. Clement LVerified Incredible Experience in the Himalayas I had a truly unforgettable experience climbing all 6070m of UT Kangri with Rigzin, supported by his team from Mountain Intelligence. Rigzin provided incredible help in pushing me up the mountain despite the going getting tough for me, especially in the final 500m of elevation or so. My acclimitization was not the best (my fault) and so the altitude was a challenge. Nonetheless, Rigzin supported me every step of the way and helped when he was needed the most. On the descent, I accidentally fell into a river and suffered some cuts and abrasions. Rigzin and team went out the way to send me to a hospital and got me checked. It goes without saying that I could never have made it up and down safely without their help!I wish them all the best and definitely look forward to the next adventure with them!
