UT Kangri Expedition 6070m

Easy Climb

UT Kangri is an incredible mountain adventure located in the heart of the majestic Ladakh region. Standing at a massive UT Kangri height of 6,070 meters, this peak is a dream destination for climbers who want to touch the sky in North India. Many adventurers consider it an easy trekking peak because it is a perfect choice for your first 6,000m summit attempt. While the technical side is manageable for fit hikers, the high altitude still requires a strong heart and steady legs to succeed.

The climb is very exciting and beautiful, surrounded by giant white glaciers and sweeping views of the Zanskar and Himalayan ranges. During the journey, you will navigate through sections of ice and rugged rocks, which is a great test for your physical skill and mental stamina. Reaching the top is a very special feeling of achievement that you will remember for your whole life.

For those looking for more mountaineering tips for beginners, training is key. Trip Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Leh Airport at 3,500m, our driver will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Today is strictly for complete rest to help your body adapt to the high altitude of Ladakh. You should stay hydrated and move slowly inside the hotel. Our team will check your oxygen levels to ensure you are settling in well. It is very important to sleep and relax today so your heart and lungs can adjust to the thin air. You will spend the night in the cozy Leh city hotel, preparing for the adventure that lies ahead in the coming days..

Today we start active acclimatization to make your body stronger for the climb. In the morning, you can relax, and after lunch, your Professional Mountain Guide will give you a detailed briefing about the expedition and safety plans. We will take a light hike towards Shanti Stupa and the Leh Palace to see beautiful views of the city. This walk helps your blood flow better at high altitudes. You will also have time to visit the local market to buy any last-minute gear or personal requirements for the trek. We return to the hotel for a final gear check and overnight stay in Leh.

We begin our journey into the wild with an 80km drive from Leh to Rumtse Phu. The road is very beautiful, passing through colorful mountains, winding roads and small Ladakhi villages. As we reach Rumtse Phu at 4,700m, you will feel the air getting thinner and the landscape becoming more rugged. We will set up our first camp in these vast, dramatic plains surrounded by towering peaks. This is a remote and peaceful spot where you can connect with nature and enjoy the pristine wilderness. The evening is perfect for stargazing under the clear Himalayan sky before sleeping in our comfortable tents.

Today we start the actual trek, walking about 6.2 kilometers to reach the UT Kangri Basecamp at an elevation of 5,200m. The hike is steady and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan giants at every turn. Moving slowly is the key today to maintain your energy and oxygen levels. Once we arrive at the basecamp, we will set up our tents and settle into this high-altitude home. The sense of achievement begins to grow as you look up at the peak. We will have a warm meal and rest early, enjoying the silence and the stunning display of stars above.

This is a very important day at 5,200m for your safety and success. Our guides will provide technical training, showing you how to use crampons, ice axes, and how to rope up for the glacier. We will go for a short acclimatization hike to a higher point and then return to rest. You must check all your summit gear today and pack your bag carefully. We will serve a very early dinner because the summit push starts in the middle of the night. It is time to stay mentally focused and get as much sleep as possible before we head toward the peak tonight.

The big day is here! We start our climb at midnight, moving slowly under the stars. The route involves trekking through deep snow and cold winds and some sections will require us to rope up for safety. You must be patient and keep a steady rhythm. Reaching the summit of Mt. UT Kangri at 6,070m is a surreal experience with amazing views of the Karakoram range and the prominent peaks of Ladakh. After celebrating at the top and taking photos, we will carefully descend back to Basecamp. It is a long, challenging day, but the feeling of victory makes every step worth it.

After a successful summit, we begin our descent back to the road head at Rumtse Phu. Walking down is much easier on the lungs, but you must be careful with your knees. We will enjoy our last breakfast in the high mountains before reaching our vehicle. From Rumtse, we drive back to Leh, leaving the rugged wilderness behind. Once we reach the hotel, you can finally enjoy a hot shower and a soft bed. It is a day to celebrate your achievement with the team and have a grand dinner in Leh city to mark the end of the expedition.

Today your Himalayan journey comes to an end. After breakfast, we will provide a transfer to the Leh Airport for your flight home. As you fly over the mountains you just climbed, you will carry back happy and vivid memories of this enchanting and mysterious landscape. We hope you leave with a heart full of adventure and a spirit that wants to return to Ladakh. Please feel free to share your photos and stories on our social media pages. We look forward to welcoming you again for your next big challenge in the mountains. Safe travels!
