Trip Itinerary

Height: 3,500m

Welcome to Ladakh! When you land at Leh airport, the air is very thin and very cold. Sometimes it is -30°C, so please wear your big jacket immediately. Our driver will meet you and take you to the hotel. Today, you must not walk too much. You must stay in bed and drink plenty of water. This is very important so you don't get a headache from the high altitude. In the evening, our climbing guide will come to your room. He will tell you the plan for the week and check if your clothes are warm enough. We have dinner at the hotel and sleep early. Rest is your best friend today.

Height: 3,500m

Today we stay in Leh to get used to the mountains. After breakfast, we bring the climbing gear to the hotel. We show you the heavy boots and the sharp crampons for your feet. We help you try them on so they fit perfect. We also show you the ice axes and the ropes. After lunch, we go for a very slow walk to Shanti Stupa. From the top, you can see all the white mountains and the Leh city. This walk is good for your lungs before we start the hard work. We go back to the hotel, drink hot tea, and talk about the ice. You will feel stronger today.

Height: 3,800m

Today we start! We drive 30 minutes to a place called Gangles. There is a big frozen waterfall there. First, we teach you how to walk on ice. It feels strange to wear spikes on your feet, but we show you the "flat-foot" way to stay safe. You will hold the ice axe and learn how to hit the ice properly. Don't worry, we use a safety rope from the top, so you cannot fall. By the afternoon, you will be climbing your first few meters. It is very exciting when you hear the "clack" sound of the axe hitting the hard ice. We go back to Leh for dinner.

Height: 3,800m

We go back to Gangles again today. Now you know the basics, so we teach you the "Triangle Way."This means using your legs more and your arms less so you don't get tired too fast. You will learn "Front-Pointing," which is using the front spikes of your boots to climb steeper ice. We also show you how to hold the rope for your friend. This is called belaying. You will spend all day on the ice, going higher and higher. Our guides are always standing next to you, telling you where to put your feet. You will feel like a real climber by the end of today.

Height: 3,800m

This is our last day at Gangles. Today is about Safety Skills. We show you "Ice Screws"—these are big screws we put into the frozen wall to hold the rope. You will learn how to make an "Ice Anchor" using a special tool to drill a hole. This is very important if you want to climb big mountains. We practice how to come down the rope (rappelling) by yourself. In the afternoon, you can choose a harder path to climb. This day is to make you confident before we go to the big 20-meter walls in the villages. One more night in our Leh hotel.

Height: 3,200m

Today we pack our bags and drive to Tsogsti village. On the way, we see the place where two big rivers meet. To get to the ice, we must walk across the frozen river—it is like a movie! The Tsogsti Ice Wall is very tall, maybe 20 meters. The ice is beautiful and blue. You will climb very long lines today, and it will test your strength. In the evening, we stay at a Homestay. This is a real Ladakhi house. We sit near the big fire, drink local butter tea, and eat home-cooked food. It is the best way to feel the mountain life.

Height: 2,900m

We drive to a new place called Khaltsi. This place is lower down, so there is more oxygen. You will feel you have much more energy here! The ice walls in Khaltsi are very thick and look like big white pillars. Today is for "Vertical Climbing." We teach you how to climb straight up 90 degrees. Because you have more oxygen, you can climb for a long time without feeling too tired. The ice here is very strong. We spend all day on the pillars and then stay in a local guesthouse. You are now climbing like a professional.

Height: 2,900m

This is your last day of climbing. Today, you choose the hardest wall and try to reach the top! You use everything you learned—how to kick your feet, how to swing your axe, and how to stay calm. It is a very proud moment when you finish the final climb. In the afternoon, we pack our gear and drive back to Leh. Tonight, we have a Big Celebration Dinner. We give you a Certificate to show you finished the Ladakh Ice Climbing Course. We share stories, look at photos, and enjoy our last night together in the mountains.

Height: 3,500m

Your adventure is finished. We have one last breakfast together at the hotel. Then, we drive you to the Leh airport. When you fly over the mountains, you can look down and say, "I climbed those!" You are going home with strong arms and a happy heart. You have done something very difficult and very brave in the -30°C cold. We hope you tell your friends about our beautiful Ladakh. Safe flight home, and we hope to see you again next winter for more climbing! Julley!
